Getting Northwinds Off the Ground

Getting Northwinds Off the Ground

If you’ve ever built something from scratch, something that feels like a reflection of who you are, you’ll understand what these past months have been like for us at Northwinds Outdoor Group. Every day has been a mix of excitement, exhaustion, and that restless energy that only comes when you’re doing something you truly care about. The hardest part, as many will understand, is the "hurry up and wait" aspect of starting a business.

We’re officially on the home stretch toward our grand opening, and it finally feels real.

The Gear: Almost Ready for the Wild

Our first batch of gear is nearly finished—something that still feels strange to say out loud. What started as sketches, prototypes, and a pile of fabric samples has now become a line of equipment we can’t wait to put in your hands.

Right now, we’re checking every seam and obsessing over the smallest details. Every zipper pull, every stitch; if it doesn’t meet our standard, it doesn’t make the cut. That’s the promise we made to ourselves from day one.

Our apparel line is still in the design phase, and we’re taking our time with it. We want every piece to earn its place in your wardrobe, not just take up space. As for our custom gear, let’s just say it’s on its way to us as we speak, straight from our manufacturing partners who have been incredible to work with.

The next time you hear from us, our shelves will be stocked, and our gear will be ready to find its way into the wild with you.

Starting from Scratch—Literally

Here’s something most people don’t see: when we say we’re starting from the ground up, we mean it. Every social media page, every post, every photo—yep, that’s us behind the scenes doing it all. There’s no marketing team, no PR agency, no glossy campaign. Just a couple of folks who love gear, love the outdoors, and believe that authenticity still matters.

It’s a slow build, but a rewarding one. Each follower, each message, each bit of feedback feels personal because it is. We’re not chasing viral moments; we’re building a community. A community that values craftsmanship, integrity, and a shared love for being outside.

Keeping the Books Balanced

Now about the financial side, because let’s be honest, bootstrapping a new company isn’t all coffee-fueled design sessions and product testing in the woods (although we do this A LOT). There’s a fair amount of spreadsheet staring, budget tweaking, and a healthy dose of “can we afford that this month?”

We made a decision early on: no loans, no shortcuts, no family fortune to fall back on. Every bit of progress has been earned the hard way. It’s slower, sure. But it’s also steadier. It forces us to be creative, intentional, and focused on sustainable growth.

If anything, it’s made us appreciate the small wins even more. When you balance your books with sweat equity instead of borrowed money, every milestone, no matter how small, feels like a victory.

Looking Ahead

We’ve got something new in the works right now, but we’re keeping it under wraps a little longer. What we can say is this: it’s something we’ve wanted to build since day one, and if you’ve liked what we’ve done so far, you’re going to love what’s coming next.

For now, our focus is on doing this launch the right way: finishing strong, staying true to our vision, and making sure that when you pick up a piece of Northwinds gear, you can feel the care that went into it.

This has been one wild ride already, and it’s only the beginning. We can’t wait to share what’s next.

Thanks for following along, and for being part of the start of something we hope will last for years to come.
